The Observeur du Design reward was created in 1999 by APCI, the French agency for the promotion of industrial design. It is an international design reward which each year brings together and rewards the best French industrial product designs, spaces and services.

The main role of the APCI is to promote design among businesses, attract interest from the general public and to ensure the promotion of French industrial creativity both in France and abroad.
In 2011, 190 Observeur du Design 12 labels were awarded in 8 different categories: Space & Environment, Daily Life, Mobility, Professional Organizations, Corporate Identity Packaging & Graphic Design, Trend Forecasting & Student Projects, Digital, Sport & Leisure.
From November 9th 2011 to March 11th 2012, an exhibition dedicated to all of these creations will be held at the Science and Industry Museum in Paris. Each year, over 200,000 visitors representing both the general public and professionals attend this popular key event in the French design calendar.

CDVI, the French manufacturer of access control and locking solutions, was awarded the Observeur du Design 12 label in the "Space and Environment" and "Professional World" categories for its new generation biometric reader, the CABAPROX.
Designed by David Moreeuw for CDVI, the CABAPROX is packed with the latest technology and design features.
User-friendly, slim and light-weight (25 mm and 0.6 kg), it is a dual technology system (biometric and RFID 13.56 Mhz) featuring audible and light indicators. It provides a security solution for both property and people in the commercial and industry sectors as well as in public access buildings, apartment buildings and other residential projects.
For the manufacturing materials, the designer opted for an aluminium and polycarbonate alloy due to its resistance to corrosion and for easy recycling.
The CABAPROX will be available in 2012, and will be presented to the public at the Science and Industry Museum in Paris from November 9th 2011.
